Mr. Lynn Davies-Memorial Service August 3rd, 2019 (Updated)

Hello Friends, Fellow Antediluvians, and Druids,

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Lynn Davies passed away Sunday July 28th.

Lynn was a legend in the Druids, Edmonton, Alberta, and Canadian rugby communities.

He was just at Druids Day, 3 weeks ago on July 6th . He was in fine form and enjoyed the company of many old and new Druids, Antediluvians, and friends from the rugby community.

Lynn was a proud Welshman, who helped found the Druids RFC in 1960. He was a great prop and coach, who inspired many of us now playing juniors, seniors, and old boys rugby.

He was a key driver for the Druids RFC through out the decades starting in the 1960’s, including playing and leading the Druids to consecutive Alberta provincial championships in 1967, 1968, and 1969. He co-founded the Edmonton Rugbyfest in 1968 with Davie Graham.

Lynn was a key recruiter, coach, friend, and mentor to many rugby players and organizers over the years.

He was on the Druids RFC 1985 Atlantic Canada Tour, where he earned the name, The Cod Father. Lynn and his wife Lorna were key members of the Druids RFC New Zealand & Australia Tour in 1989.

Lynn started the Sherwood Park Outlaws RFC in the early 1990’s. He was the point guy to secure the current Strathcona Druids fields, appropriately called the Lynn Davies Rugby Park. It is home to the largest high school spring rugby tournament in Alberta, the Lynn Davies Tourney. Lynn championed junior, seniors, and old boys rugby.

Lynn was the face of the Druids, and the rugby park, often seen fixing or riding his beloved tractors and lawn equipment to maintain the grounds, with a friendly wave.

The memorial service for Lynn Davies will be held Saturday August 3rd ,at 2 PM, at Glenwood Funeral & Cemetery in Sherwood Park, 52356 Range Road 232.

Rest in Peace Lynn.
